For some time now I have been doing performances with women, where the main focus is the violence they suffer in their domestic environment.
This video was done during the period I worked with a group of women in the outskirts of São Paulo, and also in the Women’s Protection Police Station.
On their weekly meetings, I many times took stems full of thorns to the women, and asked them to remove the thorns while they remembered the problems they had with their partners.
The women said things such as “These thorns are not enough for my suffering”, or “I’d like to remove this thorn completely”, as if they were removing the pain nailed to their chest.
While I filmed them, I could notice how difficult it was for those women to remove their own thorns.
