Memory of affection – Madrid

Performance given in 2002 to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25th).
200 women wearing bridal dresses walked the Paseo del Prado while scattering freshly-plucked rose petals that they all carried in their hands. The thorns, which had been removed earlier by the women themselves at the start of the performance, were carried on white pillows by three of the women at the front of the procession. The thorns were scorned by the women before being thrown into the rubbish bin, symbolizing the violence suffered by each and every one of them.
