To do this performance I collected, in different places of São Paulo and Seville, objects that symbolized traumatic issues in these women’s life. Papers, letters, books, rings, clothes, underwear, alcoholic drink bottles have been donated… everything that, in some way, they would like to shake off.
I put the objects inside of a suitcase full of hurt and took it to Seville.
In Seville I’ve worked in a Shelter House, in women’s Organizations and in a penitentiary. Both the SP and Seville objects were placed inside of a white box.
In a queue, 180 women wearing bridal dresses walked through Seville until Plaza Nueva, bringing their objects to the ritual. Four women carried the white box.
When they reached Plaza Nueva, the box was placed on centre and the women made a big circle around it.
Among the four women that carried the box, two were from the penitentiary – they have been arrested for killing their husbands, after being mistreated to the extreme – and the other two lived in a Shelter House. It was these women that set fire inside the box and, together, waited for the objects to transform quickly into ashes.
